Consists of 47 steel engraved plates depicting furniture, with an engraved front wrap. 33 of the plates contain later manuscript notations in alphabetical order relating to furniture parts and repairs. Numbers associated with index entries correspond to pages in the 1811 edition of the London Cabinet-maker's Union Book of Prices. Also included is a list entitled "bedstead prices agreed to April 11, 1812." Twenty of the plates date from 1788 and were published in each of the London cabinetmakers' union price books. 17 of those 20 were signed by Thomas Shearer. The remaining plates bear the name of Thomas Sheraton and date from 1792 and 1793. They were originally published in his Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book. The volume has an engraved front wrap that was included in each of the editions of the Union Book of Prices.

W. Notman was a journeyman cabinetmaker in London, England. He was involved in writing the Union Book of prices and settling job disputes. There is an A. Notman listed as a cabinetmaker at 20, Queen's Row, Hoxton in an 1811 London city directory. In 1809-1810, there is someone called Notbone at the same address. It is probable that all three represent the same person. From the description of An index key to the union book / by W. Notman, 1788-[ca. 1812]. (Winterthur Library). WorldCa...
